We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Operations Lead reporting to the Director of Patient Care, the post-holder will have delegated responsibility for the leadership and management of the delivery of the Trusts clinical directorate, providing operational leadership and decision making to the Trusts Clinical Services.

The post holder will be required to provide assurance to the Director of Patient Care and Medical Director for the delivery of safe high-quality care delivered across the Hospice.

Deputising fully for the Director of Patient Care, the Clinical Operations Lead will provide and support professional advice to the Board, Executive Directors, senior managers, and others on matters relating to nursing and quality and service development.

The post holder will have experience and proven abilities to develop and influence clinical strategy, successfully deliver clinical objectives and will hold operational leadership responsibility for the Clinical Directorate, alongside the Director of Care.

The post holder will be responsible for the line management and professional development of Senior Clinical leaders, within the Organisation. There is a requirement for the post holder to be an experienced and credible clinician with relevant and up to date knowledge of palliative and end of life care issues.

This is a demanding role with an expectation that the post holder will work flexibly with sometimes the expectation of unsociable hours.

The post holder will strategically and operationally lead and manage on behalf of the Trust for:

  1. Safeguarding
  2. Clinical Education
  3. Emergency preparedness and business continuity for the clinical directorate

Main duties and responsibilities will include:

  •  Management and leadership of senior clinical leaders within the Clinical Directorate
  • Ensure that governance and risk processes are in place and actively followed in line with the Trusts requirements, including CQC and the Health and Social Care Act.
  • Support the Director of Care with all aspects of external and Board reporting and development of the Annual Quality Account.
  • Collaborate with other service providers and statutory and voluntary bodies to develop and coordinate a systems approach to meet the palliative needs of the local community.
  • Be the point of escalation for clinical matters, providing advice and support to all clinical staff on issues relating to nursing, taking the Trust lead when required by the Director of Patient Care.
  • To lead clinical management team meetings, sharing knowledge and best practice with the clinical team
  • Participate in the on clinical on call rota
  • Provide professional leadership support, challenge and scrutiny and high-level decision making as required to clinical staff, managers and others on highly complex and sensitive clinical issues relating to quality, patient care and safety

We are looking for somebody with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Current registration with a relevant professional body in a relevant clinical discipline, together with evidence of ongoing career long learning and development
  • Recognised leadership or management qualification
  • Track record of achievement at senior management/leadership level.
  • Ability to lead independently under delegated authority, operating alongside Board level colleagues internally and outside of the Trust.
  • Ability to demonstrate personal accountability
  • Strong leadership, influencing and negotiating skills
  • At least 5 years’ experience of working as part of a senior management team.
