Why join the Lottery?
Janet Wilson from Lincoln has been fortunate enough to win the top prize of £1,000 in the weekly St Barnabas lottery for a second time in four years.
She started playing the charity’s lottery after the death of her husband Trevor, who received end of life care in the St Barnabas Inpatient Unit in Lincoln for two weeks until his death in May 2017.
Janet says: “Trev was the loveliest of husbands and a devoted father. He loved fishing and walking our dogs, something he truly missed as his health got worse.
“The care he received from St Barnabas in the Hospice was fantastic, nothing was too much. We could visit with no restrictions and even our dogs Arthur and Alfred went to see him, Trev was so happy with that! I know it would not have been possible in a hospital setting.
“We were all there the day before he passed away, it was a very precious time.
“My family and I will always be grateful to St Barnabas Hospice for their help and kindness. They made an unbearable situation as bearable as it could be and I will always support them.”
Hear from our lottery players
"My husband Chris died aged 79 and I will never forget the kindness, the professionalism, the support and the reassurance that our whole family received from St Barnabas Hospice. They were just incredible."
"The support received from St Barnabas was so valuable enabling me to spend so much quality time with my late wife at home. The support from the nurses was much appreciated and to continue support so that they may continue their wonderful work allows me to show my gratitude."
"My Dad spent the last few days of his life in the Hospice on Nettleham Road and the care he received was amazing, we were all made to feel part of the St Barnabas hospice family. In 2018 we lost our Mum and again we received the wonderful care from the Barnabas nurses."
"My lovely mum has passed away now, and at her funeral she wanted a collection for the Hospice. A fitting end for the years she dedicated to the Hospice. I play the Hospice Lottery and it's my little way of giving a bit of support."
