Swish and shop at ‘Top to Toe’ vintage evening

St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice host vintage inspired event at the Lincolnshire Showground

On Thursday, 24th April from 7pm – 10pm, at the Lincolnshire Showground, St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice will be hosting their second annual ‘Top to Toe’ vintage event – an evening filled with tea, cake and fashion.

Guests will be greeted with a complementary glass of fizz to take with them as they browse stalls packed full of vintage clothing, shoes and accessories. Fashionistas can rest their weary Manolo’s as they sip tea from mismatched china, indulge in homemade cake and listen to live music from wartime tribute singer Heather Marie.

The shopping showcase will also feature a swap shop where guests will have the chance to ‘swish’. Swishing allows guests to revive a tired wardrobe by swapping their unloved, but good quality items of clothing, for someone else’s unwanted pieces.

How do you swish?

1. Drop your clothes off in advance to St Barnabas Hospice Fundraising department at Cardinal Close in Lincoln or bring them along on the night.

2. Your clothes will be scored on a 1 – 5 point system. The more high-end the clothes the more points you will receive! Your points will then be converted into swishing tokens.

3. You can then use your tokens to buy items on the night.

Swishing rules state that all items handed in for swishing must be in a good condition and worthy of swapping. All goods will be vetted for quality control to ensure a high standard of swishing is enjoyed by all. Guests are encouraged to read the swishing guidelines here

“Swishing is a fantastic opportunity for guests to shop guilt free by getting themselves a new spring wardrobe without spending a penny!” said Becky otter, Events Fundraiser for St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice. “The eclectic mix of fashion, from high street to high-end, will be a haven for the fashion conscious, who can rummage through our rails of clothing, looking for that rare find or style steal.”

For the full ‘Top to Toe’ vintage look there will also be a pop-up beauty shop from Lincoln City Centre hairdressers ‘The Strand’. They are volunteering their time to offer vintage inspired hair styling for a minimum donation of just £4.

Becky concludes: “Top to Toe vintage is the perfect occasion for a girl’s night out – although men are welcome too! Guests can style themselves in all things vintage, have fun with their friends and shop or swap all evening.

“We have secured ourselves a larger venue this year after last year was such a huge success. We had in excess of 20 stalls and over 200 guests with swishing being the highlight for many on the night.

“The Top to Toe event aims to transport guests to a forgotten era where pillar box red lips and hair in pin curls were the very definition of glamour.”

Tickets are priced at the early bird rate of £8 and can be purchased online at www.stbarnabashospice.co.uk. Tickets can also be bought on the door on the night of the event and will be charged at the standard rate of £10.

Lincolnshire hospice looks for new headline sponsor for ‘One Night in a Onesie’

St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice appeals to the local business community for new headline sponsor

St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice are appealing for a new title sponsor for their eighth Moonlight Sleepwalk which this year is themed as ‘One Night in a Onesie’. This year the annual event in Lincoln will attempt to break the world record for the largest gathering of people wearing onesies.

Last year 1,000 took part in the Moonlight Sleepwalks across the county and together raised over £55,000. This year, St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, are hoping to attract in excess of 1,300 participants to help raise over £80,000.

The charity is appealing for a new headline sponsor from a local Lincolnshire Business. The sponsor will become synonymous with St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice and be promoted on all printed and online marketing materials, street banners and commemorative gifts given out to participants on the night.

Veronica Brien, Fundraising Manager for St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice said: “One Night in a Onesie is a fun and vibrant event that will bring the whole community together, whether it’s because you’ve been touched by the care the Hospice delivers or you simply want to support a local cause, we promise it will be a night to remember.”

The event will take place on Saturday 7th June 2014 at Yarborough Leisure Centre based on Riseholme Road. People who are unable to take part in the record breaking attempt in Lincoln are urged to join in with one of the other onesie walks taking place on the same night in Grantham, Boston and Louth.

Veronica Brien said: “We are extremely grateful for any support local businesses give as this means we can continue to host these events at very little cost to the charity, whilst ensuring the funds raised from the events go directly to providing the care and support that we do.

“Coming on board as the headline sponsor is a wonderful opportunity for a business to engage with the local community whilst demonstrating their corporate social responsibility strategy and enhancing their overall brand. Becoming affiliated with St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice will allow a sponsor to communicate with a diverse audience county-wide whilst benefiting from coverage on the night of the event and leading up to it.”

Anyone interested in being a sponsor should contact Fundraising Manager Veronica Brien via email veronica.brien@stbarnabashospice.co.uk or call 01522 559507

Take Me Out charity event raises £3,300

Brave bachelor Ant Maddy scores a date with single lady Chantel

St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice brings Lincoln’s lonely-hearts together in their search for love

Love was certainly in the air when St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice hosted their ‘Take Me Out’ event on Friday 7th February. Proving to be as popular as its ITV namesake the event raised £3,300 from the sale of tickets, sponsorship and donations.

Playing Cupid and stepping into Paddy McGuinness’ shoes was DJ Flipstones from Lincoln’s community radio station, Siren FM. The 2.5 hour show, held at the Lincoln Performing Arts Centre, saw 19 hopeful girls and 5 brave men take to the stage in their search for love.

“Take Me Out was such a fun evening to organise and be part of” said Becky Otter, Events Fundraiser for St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice. “The atmosphere on the night was electric; the participants were very game for a laugh and the audience really got involved, all amounting to a hugely successful night.”

With a spin on the famous ‘no likey, no lighty’ the charity event instead featured balloons with the catchphrase ‘if he doesn’t send you to the moon, pop your balloon’. Like its ITV namesake the show featured party pieces from the brave bachelors which included guitar playing, dancing and skipping.

The night saw 3 of the lovelorn men score a date with only 2 men leaving the show alone. With an impromptu twist on the night, presenter DJ Flipstones was cajoled into taking part and juggled his way to a date with back-flipping single lady Thea. The 4 lucky couples will find out if they are a match made in heaven on their all expenses paid date to Fer…Nandos.

Money raised through ‘Take Me Out’ allows St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice to provide care and support to a patient and their family via an in-patient hospice, day therapy centres, bereavement support and welfare support.

Becky said: “I couldn’t be more proud of everyone who helped in putting the show together. A special thank-you must go to the participants who put themselves out there and really got into the spirit of the show, making the night a unique and must-see event!”

St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice is set to benefit from ITV’s recent Text Santa appeal which raises an incredible £4.9 million

St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice – a member of national hospice charity Help the Hospices – stands to boost its income with a share of funds from ITV’s Text Santa appeal, which has raised an incredible £4.9 million.

The annual ITV appeal culminated in a live three-hour primetime show on 20 December, which resulted in ITV viewers donating millions of pounds. The money raised by Text Santa will be split between six UK charities including Help the Hospices.

From the total £820,000 raised for Help the Hospices, half will be awarded to its member hospices to help fund the vital care they provide to terminally ill people and their families. The funds received will be split equally between local hospices, which includes St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice.

The remaining £410,000 will support Help the Hospices national programme of work, supporting the future development of hospice care so that thousands of families can get the care that they need.

Help the Hospices CEO David Praill said:

“We are absolutely delighted with the generous amount of donations raised as a result of the Text Santa appeal. This money will help to make a huge difference to people’s lives across the length and breadth of the UK. Families who are facing a loss or who have lost a loved one will benefit from the vital care and support that local hospices provide.

The funds raised will also boost our national programme of work to support our member hospices. With demand for hospice care rapidly increasing it is vital to make sure hospices are there to support their communities now and in the future. We would like to say a huge thank you to ITV and the British public for all their support”.

The appeal has also helped to increase public awareness of hospice care, with a series of films which were broadcast across some of ITV’s flagship programmes including Daybreak, This Morning, The Jeremy Kyle Show and regional news.

Calendar Boys

Partners and staff at Streets have shed their suits and donned a pair of Streets branded boxer shorts to have their picture taken in some unusual locations all for a good cause.

Twelve brave volunteers posed for the camera to appear in a ‘Calendar Girls’ style calendar in aid of St Barnabas Hospice. Erica Manderfield, who was the driving force behind the calendar, commented: “We decided we wanted to raise some money for St Barnabas to say thank you to them for the work they do, so many of our friends and colleagues have family who have had some association with St Barnabas in Lincoln so it’s lovely to give something back.

“I am absolutely delighted that the calendar has been such a success and would like to thank the fantastic people who agreed to take part in the shoot and production, and of course those people who have contributed.”

The sale of the 2014 calendar has raised more than £2,600 and all proceeds will be donated to St Barnabas Hospice. Well done to all!

Text Santa

Residents of Lincolnshire are being encouraged to donate to ITV’s annual charity appeal Text Santa – which broadcasts its fundraising show next week at 8pm on Friday 20th December – to support local hospice St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice and national hospice charity Help the Hospices.

Help the Hospices is one of six charities to benefit from this year’s Text Santa appeal. As a member of the national hospice charity, Help the Hospices, St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice is now benefiting from increased public awareness about hospice care generated by the appeal.

Text Santa features prominently across ITV’s flagship programmes such as Daybreak, This Morning and The Jeremy Kyle Show. The appeal is supported by a host of celebrities to help boost fundraising and increase awareness of the work of the charities involved.

As part of the fundraising drive, in the lead-up to the main broadcast ITV are launching a “Hats on Display for Hattitude Day” – a special day of fundraising on Friday 20th December. The staff and volunteers at St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice are lending their support by wearing a hat, and anyone else who would like to join in the fun and donate £1 to Text Santa is encouraged to do so.

Becky Otter Events Fundraiser of St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice “We are delighted to be nominated once again for the Text Santa appeal. The appeal boosts awareness of hospice care throughout the uk, as a local hospice we have to raise over £3.4m a year so we can continue to provide hospice care and support to families from across Lincolnshire.”

David Praill, Chief Executive at Help the Hospices, said: “We have received some fantastic coverage from the Text Santa appeal across a wide range of ITV’s flagship programmes which has really shone a spotlight on hospice care. I hope everyone tunes in to watch the main appeal show on 20th December, donating whatever they can, and show their support by wearing a hat for ‘Hattitude’. The donations we receive make a massive difference to the work of our member hospices and will enable them to continue to provide invaluable care for terminally ill patients and their families.”

If you would like to donate to Text Santa, you can text the word SANTA to 70070 (which will automatically donate £5), you can visit www.itv.com/textsanta and follow the links, or you can phone 0300 200 8000. 100% of your donation will go to the Text Santa charities.
