Lincolnshire Hospice to host charity Quiz Night
Guests are invited to test their general knowledge and skills at fundraising Quiz Night
On Thursday 12th October, from 7.30pm – 10.30pm, St Barnabas Hospice will be hosting its annual fundraising Quiz Night for the Grantham area.
Doors open at 7pm for 7.30pm start at our new venue St Wulfram’s Church, Church Street, Grantham, NG31 6RR.
Teams of up to six will compete in various rounds of questions including sport, trivia and general knowledge. This year’s event will also include a chilli con-carne supper or veg’ option with homemade cake for dessert.
Janie McCormick, Community Fundraiser for St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, said:
“Now in its 18th year, the quiz has always proved very popular! Although a little earlier in the year than usual, we are looking forward to running this event again and hope the new venue will be a success.
“A quiz often brings out the competitive side in people and it is a great way to socialise with friends and neighbours whilst raising much needed funds for a local cause.”
Prizes will be awarded on the night to the highest scoring team, a raffle will be available, and supporters are asked to bring their own drink.
Janie adds:
“We are continuing to increase awareness of the services that St Barnabas offers in the Grantham area, as well as raising funds, and hope that the quiz will be well received.”
Tickets are priced at £9.50 each and can be bought in advance from our Day Therapy Centre on Barrowby Road, Grantham or from our charity shop on Welby Street, Grantham.

Now in its seventh year, ‘It’s a Knockout’ promises to be the biggest one yet, with teams of 10 taking on the inflatable challenge at Washingborough Playing Fields on 16th July 2017.
The ‘It’s a Knockout’ event is inspired by the famous TV game show, and features wacky challenges, giant inflatables and various water pools.
Starting at 12pm, spectators can visit various stalls, water zorbing, a bouncy castle, giant inflatable slides, face painting and a BBQ alongside the big event! Eskimoo and Daisy Made Ice Cream will be available on the day, as well as a special appearance from Princess Belle from Beauty and the Beast.
Both entry and parking are free for all spectators, but car sharing is suggested due to limited parking spaces. There are 18 teams taking part in the main event, which will be split into two games.
There are several local businesses entering a team this year, including Cooke & Mason, Hodgkinson’s Solicitors, Siemens, Starglaze Windows, Lincoln Waterside Centre, Lincoln Baby Business, and Redrock Partnership Ltd. As well as this, St Barnabas is entering their very own team, with CEO, Chris Wheway, as Captain!
Laura Stones, Events Fundraiser for St Barnabas Hospice, said:
“We have a whole host of teams lined up, ready to entertain you. It will certainly be as much fun to watch as it will be for the people taking part!
“Thanks to all the local businesses who are getting involved, there will be loads for spectators to do, and it will definitely be a fun-filled family day out.”
“We hope to raise in excess of £15,000 from the day!”
St Barnabas Hospice have decided to bring back the popular ‘Children’s Challenge’ after the main event. Children will be able to compete on the giant inflatables on the day for only £5. There is no need to register in advance for this – just turn up on the day.

St Barnabas Hospice’s Moonlight Walk sees 600 women take to the streets of Lincoln
A total of 600 women took to the streets of Lincoln city on Saturday night to raise money for St Barnabas Hospice
More than £40,000 was raised when 600 women took to the streets of Lincoln dressed in pink and light-up accessories for St Barnabas Hospice’s 10th annual Moonlight Walk.
The annual fundraiser saw the walkers depart from Yarborough Leisure Centre at 10pm after an energising warm-up to some girl power favourites.
Many of the women had a personal connection to St Barnabas and were walking in memory of their loved ones.
Vanessa Rushby, 47, from Lincoln, walked in loving memory of her mum, who was cared for by the Hospice in her final days.
Vanessa said: “It is a real honour to be able to raise money in my mum’s memory, she was always such a lovely and bubbly character and I am sure she would have loved an event like Moonlight Walk.
“The care Mum received at St Barnabas was simply amazing, I can’t fault it. The love and care we experienced is something that I will always cherish, they really took the time to look after the whole family.”
Judy Kent, 54, from Bicester, walked on the sixth anniversary of her dad’s death after he was looked after at St Barnabas Hospice’s Inpatient Unit on Nettleham Road.
Judy said: “Our dad died at St Barnabas Hospice on 10th June 2011 after being diagnosed with oesophageal cancer the previous year. We were all there by dad’s side for a week and the wonderful nurses supported us every day.
“It was Dad’s wish to die in St Barnabas with his girls around him and because of St Barnabas his final wish was fulfilled. I still remember now how the nurses lit a candle when he died, such a simple thing to do but something that was very poignant and calming.
“The care Dad received at St Barnabas was simply wonderful and he was always treated with dignity and respect. The nurses do such an incredible job and look after the whole family.
“I speak from the heart when I say that St Barnabas Hospice is a wonderful place and everyone who works there is a true credit to the charity.”
Laura Stones, Event Fundraiser for St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, said:
“We would like to say a huge heartfelt thank you to everyone that walked through the night to raise money for St Barnabas.
“We hope that everyone enjoyed the evening and gone to bed knowing what a huge difference they have made to the lives of hundreds of families across Lincolnshire.”
St Barnabas Hospice is a local independent charity and every year support more than 9,000 people across Lincolnshire with a life-limiting or terminal illness. They deliver free, high-quality, compassionate end-of-life care and support to patients, their families and carers.
The hospice has to raise over £5.5 million every year to run and 73p of every £1 received goes towards patient care.

Amelia Mochan, Events Fundraiser for St Barnabas Hospice, said:

Lincolnshire Hospice goes yellow to raise money for end of life care
Go Yellow fundraisers
St Barnabas Hospice will be going yellow for the entire month of June this year, in order to raise some much needed money for end of life care.
Go Yellow is fun and easy to get involved– just pick any day in June and do something yellow as a way of showing your support for hospice care. You could organise a yellow non-uniform/dress down day, have a yellow party, or even bathe in custard!
St Barnabas will be selling yellow wristbands for £1, which can be purchased at any of their shops or hospice buildings. They are appealing for local companies to get involved in any way they can. Businesses can host yellow fundraising events, or just help by selling the yellow wristbands.
Adrian Oke, Fundraising Development Manager, said:
“Go Yellow is a brilliant way for everyone in our Lincolnshire community to get involved in fundraising. Here is your opportunity to enhance our big, bright and bold county with a sunny yellow glow. It’s time to get creative!
“We’d love to see as many people as possible in Lincolnshire getting involved with this, so please visit our website for some great ideas and resources to help!”
Make sure you turn your social media pages yellow too by uploading your #yelfie (yellow selfie) and tagging St Barnabas. You can also donate by texting GOYL17 and an amount to 70070.
