Local charity leaders team up for sponsored walk in aid of St Barnabas Hospice

17th July 2017

Chief Executives from St Barnabas Hospice and LACE Housing have teamed up to walk 33 miles in a day for charity

On Friday 28th July, St Barnabas Chief Executive, Chris Wheway, and LACE Housing Chief Executive, Nick Chambers, will join together to take on the challenge of walking the 33 mile Lincoln to Boston Water Railway in a day.

Both St Barnabas Hospice and LACE Housing are members of Lincs Independent Living Partnership (LILP), a group of five local charitable organisations providing services across Lincolnshire.

Chief Executive of LACE Housing, Nick Chambers, said:

“I have previously walked the 220 mile Coast to Coast route in 11 days, and the 120 mile Cleveland Way route in 6 days. However, this route means we are walking 33 miles in just one day!

“The work of St Barnabas Hospice is held very dear to the people of Lincolnshire, and I am very keen to support charitable organisations such as the Hospice in any way I can.”

Chris Wheway, Chief Executive at St Barnabas, said:

“I have never walked this far in one day before, and whilst the scenery will be amazing, it’s going to be a very long day!

“The walk will begin at Beach House, Waterside in Lincoln, and we expect it to take 10-12 hours to complete. We will take the route along the water and ex-railway trail.

“Partnership working is at the core of everything we do at St Barnabas – in our approach to clinical care, how we work with families and carers, and how we work with organisations and the wider community in Lincolnshire.”

Chris is spending 2017 completing 35 challenges in celebration of St Barnabas Hospice’s 35th birthday year. So far, he has completed a variety of challenges, including the 5k Colour Dash, car washing, a 100 mile bike ride, golfing, and dressing in yellow!

St Barnabas are encouraging members of the public to take part in 35 challenges too, in the hope that these will raise an extra £100,000 to help fund more hospice nurses across the county.
