It’s a Knockout fundraiser set to return to Wyndham Park in Grantham

Wyndham Park is set to hold the second annual ‘It’s a Knockout’ fundraiser hosted by St Barnabas Hospice

Now in its second year, ‘It’s a Knockout’ is due to be bigger and better than ever, with teams of 10 taking on the inflatable challenge at Wyndham Park on 4th June 2017.

The ‘It’s a Knockout’ event is inspired by the famous TV game show, and features wacky challenges, giant inflatables and various water pools. Starting at 12pm, there will be various stalls and a BBQ available alongside the big event.

Tina Dingley, Corporate Fundraiser for St Barnabas Hospice, said:

“Why not bring colleagues together to take part in an unforgettable activity that’s fun, competitive and completely unique. A brilliant way of getting everyone together for the ultimate team building experience.”

The event is a great idea for local businesses to get involved in and promote staff morale. Alternatively, you could gather together a group of friends, or even enter your club or society.

Registration is only £10 per person, with each individual being asked to raise a minimum of £60. Spectators can visit free of charge.

As well as watching the giant inflatable games there will be fun activities available for all the family plus food and craft stands.

Melissa Pigott, from the winning team in 2016, said:

“Last year myself and a group of friends saw an advert for ‘It’s a Knockout’ and decided not only would it be a great way to raise some money for a brilliant charity, but it could be a lot of fun too.

“We were right, we had such a brilliant day and had the best laugh ever, and to top it all our team ‘Concussion’ were named the winners – it was the best feeling!”

This year, St Barnabas Hospice have decided to include a ‘Children’s Challenge’ after the main event. Children will be able to compete on the giant inflatables on the day for only £5. There is no need to register in advance for this – just turn up on the day.

St Barnabas is also accepting stalls on the day, which are priced at £100 for a food stall, or £20 for a craft stall. This will pay for a 5m x 5m plot. All equipment will be provided by the stall holder, including tables, chairs and electric.

Family steps out for Hospice’s Moonlight Walk on anniversary of dad’s death

The family will walk in loving memory of Graham Taylor

A local family have signed up to the St Barnabas Moonlight Walk, which takes place on the anniversary weekend of their dad’s death

Women from across Lincoln have been signing up in their hundreds for St Barnabas Hospice’s Moonlight Walk, which is set to take place on Saturday 10th June at Yarborough Leisure Centre.

One family explain why they are walking in memory of their dad, Graham Taylor, to raise funds for the charity that cared for him in his final days.

Judy Kent, 54, from Bicester, said:

“Our dad died at St Barnabas Hospice on 10th June 2011 after being diagnosed with oesophageal cancer the previous year. We were all there by dad’s side for a week and the wonderful nurses supported us every day.

“It was Dad’s wish to die in St Barnabas with his girls around him and because of St Barnabas his final wish was fulfilled. I still remember now how the nurses lit a candle when he died, such a simple thing to do but something that was very poignant and calming.”

After Graham died, his family vowed that they would always spend the anniversary of his death together and that they would celebrate the kind and generous man they had lost.

His daughter, Nicola Thomas, 46, from Ruskington, said:

“When we saw the Moonlight Walk was taking place on the anniversary of dad’s death we knew that we had to sign up. This is the perfect opportunity for us to honour Dad and to be able to give something back to such an important charity, to ensure they can be there for more families in the future.”

The Moonlight Walk is a flagship event for St Barnabas, and features a 10K route around Lincoln. Participants will warm-up at Yarborough Leisure Centre before heading out to the streets of Lincoln and past the Cathedral.

Judy said: “The care Dad received at St Barnabas was simply wonderful and he was always treated with dignity and respect. The nurses do such an incredible job and look after the whole family.

“I speak from the heart when I say that St Barnabas Hospice is a wonderful place and everyone who works there is a true credit to the charity.”

Registration for the Moonlight Walk, which starts at Yarborough Leisure Centre, Riseholme Road, Lincoln, is £12 for adults and £7 for children (11 – 15).

Adult participants are asked to raise minimum sponsorship of £20.17 and children are asked to raise as much as they can.

Participants can register online.

Jill said:

“The nurses at St Barnabas were absolutely fantastic in the way they cared for Dad. They got to know him and my mum well, and were very warm and loving.

“The stand-out to me was that my dad was able to make all his own decisions thanks to the Hospice, and he kept his humour to the end.

“I’m really looking forward to sharing Dad’s memory with others, and talking to people who have been through the same thing. I’m taking part together with a group of friends, and we hope to raise over £500 for the Hospice.”

The Colour Dash is a 5k route dotted with various coloured paint stations, ensuring participants get sprayed with environmentally friendly powder at every kilometre. Participants can run, walk or dance the route to raise money to get fit or in honour of a loved one.

Hundreds sign up to Hospice Colour Dash in memory of loved ones

St Barnabas Hospice is well underway with plans for their annual Colour Dash at the Lincolnshire Showground after a flurry of sign-ups

In response to the launch of this year’s Colour Dash, St Barnabas Hospice has seen an excellent response in sign-ups, and is hopeful it will be a record breaking year.

The popular 5k Colour Dash will once again be held at the Lincolnshire Showground on Saturday 13th May, and is open to anyone aged 5 and over (under 16s to be accompanied by a paying adult).

The Colour Dash is a 5k route dotted with various coloured paint stations, ensuring participants get sprayed with environmentally friendly powder at every kilometre. Participants can run, walk or dance the route to raise money to get fit or in honour of a loved one.

Becky Otter, Event Manager for St Barnabas Hospice, said:

“Colour Dash is for all ages and abilities, and you certainly don’t need to be an athlete to take part. Many participants choose to take part in memory of a loved one, and it is lovely to see so many people coming together and celebrating the lives of those they love.

“It’s a great way to give something back to St Barnabas whilst having fun at the same time.”

To book a place at the Colour Dash, it will cost only £20 for adults, £10 for children and £50 for a family ticket. There is also the opportunity to book a stall at £100 for the event.

Included in the registration fee is a fundraising pack, neon sunglasses, a bottle of water, a poncho and a commemorative medal.

Participant, Mrs Chapman (aged 31 from Grantham), said:

“I decided to take part in the Colour Dash as we lost my father-in-law to cancer in March 2015. He received fantastic care at St Barnabas Hospice when he was near the end, and it really helped him and the family having the amazing staff helping to take care of him in his final days.

“I think my father-in-law would be proud of us running in his memory, and hopefully he’s smiling down on us.”

Natalie Morley (aged 33 from Boston), also participating this year, added:

“My son (aged 14) and I are using the Colour Dash to keep Grandad’s memory alive.

“I hope that Grandad would be proud of us for doing this, as not only do we take part to raise money, we also enjoy celebrating Grandad and everything he was to us all. There is not a day that goes by where I don’t think of him, but when we’re running it’s fun and we have nothing but smiles for him.”

Sponsoring this year’s event are Western Power Distribution, Running Imp, Lincolnshire Co-op, Your Print Partner and Bailgate Independent. St Barnabas has once again called on the help of Total Fitness Lincoln to lead a fun warm up before the event.
