Lincoln dance school ‘StreetBeat’ lead the way in promoting annual St Barnabas Hospice fundraiser

St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice and StreetBeat Dance and Fitness worked together to raise awareness of the 10k Moonlight Walk in a High Street flash mob on Saturday 8th April.

The flash mob performed outside St Benedict’s Church on Lincoln’s High Street at 2.30pm, where the all-female group dressed in pink emerged from the crowd, to perform in-front of unsuspecting shoppers. They danced to I’m a Lady by Meghan Trainor.

The event was organised by St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice to promote their upcoming Moonlight Walk taking place on Saturday 10th June in Lincoln. The walk will start at Yarbrough Leisure Centre on Riseholme Road and will take participants past the Cathedral and through the streets of Lincoln.

Hayley Evans, Co-owner of StreetBeat Dance and Fitness, said:

“St Barnabas Hospice is such a worthwhile charity and StreetBeat always enjoy having the opportunity to support them.

“The kids and adults were excited to perform to such an unsuspected audience, as well as showing off their love of dance.”

This is the tenth Moonlight Walk the charity has organised, and this year they are looking to raise in excess of £44,000.

Laura Stones, Events Fundraiser for St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, said:

“A huge thanks goes to StreetBeat for putting in so much time and energy into organising a flash mob to raise awareness of our charity and our event.

“The Moonlight Walk is not a sport; it is a unique walk that welcomes all Lincolnshire ladies to take part.

“It really will be the biggest night out in Lincoln, as hundreds of ladies gather together dressed in pink to raise vital funds for the hospice.”

Participants can register online at http://www.stbarnabashospice.co.uk/EventDetails/756/moonlight-walk-2017. Adults are charged at £12 and children aged 11 – 17 are charged at £7.

Money raised through the Moonlight Walk allows St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice to continue to provide care and support to people who are seriously ill and dying. The county-wide charity has two Inpatient units, eight Day Therapy centres and bereavement and welfare support.

Limited spaces left at third St Barnabas Colour Dash with early bird prices set to end

Lincolnshire Showground is set to host what promises to be another sell-out event for St Barnabas Hospice

Following on from the December announcement that St Barnabas will once again be holding the popular 5k Colour Dash at the Lincolnshire Showground, places have been selling rapidly. This event is due to be held on Saturday 13th May.

Last year, participants were covered in environmentally friendly powder paint as they ran, walked and danced to raise over £120,000 for local hospice care.

The Colour Dash is a 5k route dotted with various coloured paint stations, ensuring participants get sprayed every kilometre. Entrants must be over 5 years old, and anyone under 16 must also be accompanied by a paying adult.

Becky Otter, Event Manager for St Barnabas Hospice, said:

“After the huge success of the previous two Colour Dash events we have hosted, we are expecting another sell-out this year.

“Colour Dash is for all ages, and you don’t have to be a runner to take part! Whether you run, walk or dance your way round, you should feel proud that you are doing it for such a good cause.”

With registration for the event in full swing, there is less than a month to book an early bird space – costing only £15 for adults and £5 for children. An early bird family ticket is also available for only £35. These prices will be valid until 1st March 2017.

Included in the registration fee is a fundraising pack, neon sunglasses, a bottle of water, a poncho and a commemorative medal.

Sponsoring this year’s event are Western Power Distribution, Running Imp, Lincolnshire Co-op, Your Print Partner and Bailgate Independent. St Barnabas has once again called on the help of Total Fitness Lincoln to lead a fun warm up before the event.

Public demand sees popular ‘Knockout’ fundraiser return to Grantham

The 2016 winning team, Concussion, with their trophies!

Wyndham Park is set to hold the yearly ‘It’s a Knockout’ fundraiser hosted by St Barnabas Hospice.

Now in its second year, ‘It’s a Knockout’ is due to be bigger and better than ever, with teams of 10 taking on the inflatable challenge at Wyndham Park on 4th June 2017.

The ‘It’s a Knockout’ event is inspired by the famous TV game show, and features wacky challenges, giant inflatables and various water pools. Starting at 12pm, there will be various stalls and a BBQ available alongside the big event.

Tina Dingley, Corporate Fundraiser for St Barnabas Hospice, said:

“Why not bring colleagues together to take part in an unforgettable activity that’s fun, competitive and completely unique. A brilliant way of getting everyone together for the ultimate team building experience.”

The event is a great idea for local businesses to get involved in and promote staff morale. Alternatively, you could gather together a group of friends, or even enter your club or society.

Registration is only £10 per person, with each individual being asked to raise a minimum of £60. Spectators can visit free of charge.

As well as watching the giant inflatable games there will be fun activities available for all the family plus food and craft stands.

Melissa Pigott, from the winning team in 2016, said:

“Last year myself and a group of friends saw an advert for ‘It’s a Knockout’ and decided not only would it be a great way to raise some money for a brilliant charity, but it could be a lot of fun too.

“We were right, we had such a brilliant day and had the best laugh ever, and to top it all our team ‘Concussion’ were named the winners – it was the best feeling!

“This year we are back for more fun, laughs and slippery slopes. Come along and challenge team Concussion and have as much fun as we will.”

This year, St Barnabas Hospice have decided to include a ‘Children’s Challenge’ after the main event. Children will be able to compete on the giant inflatables on the day for only £5. There is no need to register in advance for this – just turn up on the day.

St Barnabas is also accepting stalls on the day, which are priced at £100 for a food stall, or £20 for a craft stall. This will pay for a 5m x 5m plot. All equipment will be provided by the stall holder, including tables, chairs and electric.

Tracy Atkins, 51, and her sister Yvonne Ray, 55, both from Lincoln, headed to Beijing for the eight-day charity trek in September.

The pair walked up to eight hours each day in a variation of weather conditions from hot and humid to extended downpours of rain, which made the trek all the more difficult and tiring.

Tracy said: “The Great Wall of China trek was a fantastic life changing experience where we made many friends and had the opportunity to experience the Chinese culture and soak up the wonderful scenery.

“I was honoured to be able to raise the money for St Barnabas Hospice as I see first-hand how crucial our care and services are to the local community.”

The dedicated duo raised the £7,000 from a variety of fundraising events throughout the year including a horse racing night at Lincoln City football club, bingo nights, coffee mornings, afternoon teas and a raffle.

Tracy said: “I would like to express my sincere thanks to the many people, local companies and family and friends who contributed money and gifts to support us.
