Hospice Knockout fundraiser returns to Washingborough after public demand

Family fun day ‘It’s a Knockout’ returns to Washingborough Playing Fields for a day of summer fun

St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice will host their sixth annual ‘It’s a Knockout’ at Washingborough Playing Fields on Sunday 10th July at 12pm. The hospice mascot, Barnabas Bear will be cheering on twelve teams including many from the local business community.

Teams from Audi, Diane Genders, NMB Minebea UK, Salon Two, Jacksons Buildbase, Cooke and Mason and Nurses from Lincoln County Hospital will battle it out on a giant inflatable obstacle course, filled with bubbles and water.

Becky Otter, Events Manager for St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, said:

“After announcing that last years ‘It’s a Knockout’ would be our last we were inundated with requests to host it again this year. I am very glad that we listened to public opinion as we have sold out of all the team places!

“This is a really fun event for the whole family to come and support the hospice and have a great day out. When you’re not watching the teams compete you can have a go on our climbing wall, giant slide, bouncy castle and face painting.”

Refreshments will be available throughout the day with local favourites Eskimoo and Daisy Made on-site. There will also be a BBQ with Lincolnshire’s finest sausages and burgers from Elite Meat in the Bailgate.

Angie Driver, Paralegal at Diane Genders Solicitors, said:

“This is such a great event to get involved with. All of us will know someone whose lives have been affected by cancer. We wanted to combine our social events with some local fundraising that was close to our hearts and this event was the natural choice.

“Over the course of the next twelve months we have set a target of raising £2000 for St Barnabas hospice. We hope our clients; referrers and friends will come along on the day and help us to help St Barnabas.”

Kaytee McKenzie from team NMB-MINEBEA, said:

“This is the fourth year running we have entered as a work team, it’s a fantastic fun event to participate in and a great family day out, but best of all raising money for a worthy charity”

Andy Parker, from Lincoln Audi, said:

“We’re supporting this event as everyone I know has, at some point, been supported by this local charity. The people that work with St Barnabas are true angels and we feel that this is the best way of giving something back to recognise the great work they do.”

For the first time this year the family fun day will also showcase ‘Tony Butlers Exotic Animal and Owl Adventures’ and children will get to meet Disney favourites Elsa and Anna.

Becky concludes:

“It’s a jam packed day of family fun and the children will also be able to try their luck on the inflatable course from 4pm for a donation of £5. There’s no need to register in advance the children can just get involved on the day.

“Come along and cheer on our teams, meet Barnabas Bear and help to make a real difference to the lives of our patients and their families.”

The event is FREE to watch.

Lincolnshire residents urged to make a will and help boost funds for local hospice

Sills and Betteridge Solicitors lend their support to Make a Will month with St Barnabas Hospice

St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice has launched a major campaign across the county to encourage local residents to support the hospice and make a will this month.

The hospice is running Make a Will Month throughout June with Sills and Betteridge who will waive their legal fee so that clients can make a donation to the hospice.

Veronica Brien, Head of Fundraising and Marketing, said:

“Make a Will month is a great opportunity to get your affairs in order, have your will written or amended for a donation and help to secure the future of St Barnabas Hospice.

“We are also asking our community to think about leaving a gift in their will as this can have a vital impact on the care we provide now and the care we hope to provide in the future. At present, one in five of our patients are supported by a gift left in a will.”

Andrew Durkan, Partner at Sills and Betteridge, said:

“We are delighted to be involved with St Barnabas Hospice Make a Will Month, especially as it is the first time they have run an initiative of this sort. It is a great opportunity for us to encourage and facilitate local people to make a Will whilst giving a voluntary donation to such a deserving charity, instead of paying our fees.”

As well as raising money for St Barnabas Hospice, Make a Will Month also encourages people to make plans for their future and to plan for the end of their lives.

Veronica added: “We spend our lives working to provide for ourselves and our loved ones. You may own property, shares, savings, investments and personal possessions. Making a Will is your way of saying how you would like your estate to be divided amongst your loved ones.

“There is no obligation as part of Make a Will month to leave a legacy to St Barnabas Hospice. However, once you have provided for your loved ones, any gift you are able to leave will help to ensure we are able to continue providing specialist care and support to our community in the future.”

Sills and Betteridge have offices in Lincoln, Boston, Skegness, Sleaford, Spilsby and Gainsborough. To find your nearest branch go to www.sillslegal.co.uk

Hospice Colour Dash breaks all records

Local independent charity gets a boost of £150,000 as 3,500 people turn out for sell out fun run

A total of 3,500 people have pledged more than £150,000 to St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice after taking part in the Colour Dash which saw participants showered in colour along the 5k route.

The independent charity teamed up with local events supplier, Running Imp, to host the fundraiser on Saturday 14th May at the Lincolnshire Showground.

Becky Otter, Event Manager for St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, said:

“I am so excited to reveal that the Colour Dash far surpassed any of our expectations to make it the highest grossing event in our charity’s history. We are so grateful for every single person who turned out to raise such an incredible amount of money for hospice care.

“After the success of last year’s event we opened it up to an additional 1,000 entrants and we were astounded when this sold out before the big day. The Colour Dash has captured the hearts and minds of our local community who came out in force to show their support.”

The Colour Dash saw participants as young as five hit with environmentally friendly powdered paint as they ran the five-kilometre course.

Becky said: “We met people who were taking part for all sorts of reasons. Many were there to remember and honour someone special whilst others came along to soak up the atmosphere.”

The event saw support from the local business community with Western Power Distribution, named as headline sponsors.

Becky concludes: “The money raised from this event will directly impact the care and services we provide. Last year we cared for more than 9,000 people across the county and this year we hope to care for even more.”

Plans are already underway with next year’s Colour Dash which will take place on Saturday 13th May 2017 at the Lincolnshire Showground.
