40 Faces of hospice care | Meet Rebecca Wilson, corporate supporter

Local business Jacksons Workwear Rental has been a loyal supporter of St Barnabas for two decades. It all started in 2002 when Rebecca’s grandad was cared for by the Hospice. At the time, Rebecca’s dad, Michael Wilson, was MD at Jacksons and wanted to give back in recognition of the care his father received.

Since 1995, the enthusiastic team at Jacksons has raised over £28,000 to help us care for patients across Lincolnshire. Led by a dedicated charity committee, everyone at the local firm gets involved in fundraising in one way or another. Family fun days are always a hit, with bacon-butty mornings, hot dog lunches and cocktails on the riverbank going down very well too! Two teams did Jacksons proud when they took part in It’s a Knockout, while the rest of the staff enjoyed the antics from the safety of the side-lines!

Customer Service and Sales Manager Rebecca’s colleagues are always up for a challenge, whether that’s running the Lincoln 10k, skydiving, or taking on an endurance bike ride. While anyone wanting to do their bit in a slightly more relaxed way, can buy sweet treats from the subsidised office vending machine or a book in the year-round book swap. St Barnabas is the chosen charity for Jacksons’ profit share scheme too.

While the team has fun with fundraising, two members of staff – Val Garlick and ‘Big Shaz’ – who sadly passed away in the Hospice, are never far from their thoughts. Val was the heart and soul of organising events for Jacksons. She even organised her funeral while in St Barnabas because she knew no one would be able to do it better! In fact, Val and ‘Big Shaz’ along with Rebecca’s grandad, and the friends and family of Jacksons’ employees who received our care, were the inspiration behind Jacksons becoming a Presenting Partner for our 40th-anniversary HeART Trail.

In 2017, we awarded Jacksons the prestigious Going the Extra Mile Award, and they’re still blazing a fundraising trail to this day.

In her own words… “St Barnabas is a local charity, and we’re a local business – over the years we’ve developed a special partnership. It’s a cause that’s so close to our hearts at Jacksons and many of our employees and customers share that sentiment, in many cases because St Barnabas has been there when they’ve needed support.”
