With less than a week to go, St Barnabas Hospice is planning to welcome more than 1,500 people to their flaming torchlight procession in Lincoln.

The annual event takes place on Tuesday 27th November, where a pipe band will lead the procession from Claytons Sports Ground on Lee Road, through the Bailgate before finishing outside Lincoln Cathedral.

Road closures will be in place from 7pm – 9pm and will affect:

  • Bailgate
  • Castle Hill
  • Church Lane
  • Eastgate
  • Lee Road
  • Nettleham Road (Lee Road to Church Lane)
  • Newport (Bailgate to Rasen Lane)
  • Minster Yard

Becky Otter, Events Manager, said:

“Final preparations are being made for our annual Torchlight Procession which is one of the most heart-warming events in the Hospice calendar. You don’t need to register in advance, simply come along on the night and remember your loved ones in this unique and special way.

“The event is free to attend and open to everyone, not just those touched by hospice care.”

The procession will culminate at Lincoln Cathedral where the Tree of Life will be illuminated for the first time, each light dedicated to someone special. Those attending will also be able to leave a ‘message of love’ which can be tied to the railings surrounding the tree.

Flaming torches can be purchased on the night from 6.30pm for £5 each and are for over 16’s only. Battery lanterns will also be available for £3.50 each.

If you would like to dedicate a light in memory of someone this year, or for more information about the Light up a Life events, please go to www.stbarnabashospice.co.uk/LUAL
