St Barnabas Hospice plans to expand prize winning garden in Louth in 2018.
Catlin McLaughlin’s award winning garden opened at St Barnabas Hospice Louth in 2016 has provided a great addition to the community. As a result if this the Hospice has been inspired to work with the local community to develop the remaining garden space by creating and adding small themed gardens. The aim is to create an outdoor space that can be enjoyed by all.
The gardens will be developed in bite sized areas and in order to decide which one starts the process, St Barnabas Hospice are inviting the local community members into the Louth Hospice to cast their vote. Each visitor can cast their vote for their favourite garden from three themes, Nostalgia, Wellbeing and The Working Garden. Comments and votes can be made at the Hospice until Friday 2nd February.
St Barnabas invites you to attend either the coffee morning or the open evening on Thursday 25th January where staff will be on hand to answer questions as the voting goes into its final week.
The three themes to choose from are currently illustrated in the entrance of the Hospice
The Nostalgia Garden has been designed for those who experience memory loss or dementia. The garden will feature historical items and yesteryear planting within early century styling.
The Working Garden, celebrates the horticultural and agricultural heritage of Lincolnshire. This garden, inclusive to all who wish to enjoy it will include potting shed area, raised vegetable beds, a vintage tractor and area to sit and relax.
The final theme is the Wellbeing Garden which will provide those visiting with a tranquil area to relax. A perfect location to take part in outdoor Yoga, seated Tai Chi and personal reflection.
Following the vote, the winning garden will be announced on Monday 5th February. Work will begin shortly after and the charity hopes to welcome many organisations, companies and the general public to help make the garden happen through Community work days.
All work will continue towards the Summer months to complete the garden by September.

We hope that our expansion can continue past the winning vote and that we can develop the gardens to reflect the favourites of the local community. The success of the current garden at Louth Hospice gives those receiving care a sense of tranquillity.
These gardens are really important in providing dignified and compassionate care. Having access to outdoor space is really important to the health and wellbeing of our patients and studies show that it has therapeutic benefits and encourages relaxation.”
The voting has already begun and the local community are urged to get behind their favourite garden and get involved in the community work days.
