New Deputy Director of Patient Care joins St Barnabas Hospice

26th November 2021

A very warm welcome to Joanne Polkey who joined St Barnabas Hospice at the start of November as Deputy Director of Patient Care.

Joanne has been a nurse for more than 30 years and brings a wealth of experience with her, particularly in community nursing. She said, “The role involves working with Michelle Webb, the Director of Patient Care, as well as the Nursing team across St Barnabas. Initially I will be based at the Inpatient Unit on Nettleham Road, Lincoln, but it will also be very much about going out and about and meeting the teams.

“I’ve just spent eight years working at Nottinghamshire Hospice. I’m a nurse by background and also a district nurse. I’m very passionate about nursing in the community and ensuring that people get that opportunity to die when they want to, whether that be at home or in a bedded unit. I feel well placed to bring those skills to Lincolnshire and am looking forward to this new challenge. It’s very different to Nottinghamshire Hospice who doesn’t have any beds, but I’m looking forward to learning more.

“I’ve been a nurse for over 30 years, and nursing at the end of life is one of the things that I am most passionate about. You only get one opportunity to get it right.”
