Step Up for St Barnabas
Did you know a nurse walks on average 10,000 steps per shift?
This March, we’re inviting you to walk 10,000 steps a day in support of St Barnabas. Over the whole month that’s 310,000 steps! Click here to sign up and secure your spot for free.
Complete your steps at any time of day, at your own pace, and in your own time. Take on the challenge individually, as a group, or track your steps on your dog walks.
Share the news of your challenge with your family and friends and ask them to sponsor you for taking part. We kindly ask that you aim to raise a minimum sponsorship of £50.
By taking on this challenge and fundraising, you’ll be directly contributing towards the funding of vital services and helping to provide essential hospice care to over 12,000 people annually.
How it works:
- Sign Up on Enthuse: Register and start promoting your fundraising page.
- Log Your Progress: Walk 10,000 steps a day in March. You set the pace and style, all while tracking your progress alongside fellow fundraisers. Snap photos along the way, sharing your experience as you Step Up for St Barnabas.
- Complete Your Challenge: Finish and receive a certificate as a token of your achievement.
What your support means:
Every £49.16 raised pays for a physiotherapy or occupational therapy session to maintain a patient’s independence.
Natalie McGann, Senior Physiotherapist at St Barnabas, says: “Within physiotherapy we look at a patient’s mobility, strength, balance, coordination and general pattern movements. Meanwhile, occupational therapy looks at their activities of daily living and tasks they do every day, helping them maintain their independence.
“We ask patients a variety of questions to find out what they can do and what they want to do, and from that we create a plan with them and set some individualised goals.”
Michelle Johnson, Senior Physiotherapist at St Barnabas, adds: “That can be anything from trying to get up steep hill in Lincoln to sitting up more in bed, it’s very much unique to them and what they would like to achieve.”
Chris Wheway, Chief Executive Officer at St Barnabas Hospice, said: “To mark 10 incredible years with St Barnabas Hospice, I’m taking on 10 meaningful activities throughout 2025. I want to invite you all to join me in taking on Step Up for St Barnabas in March. Whether it’s a morning dog walk or a stroll during lunch, let’s hit those steps together and raise vital funds to support the provision of hospice care in Lincolnshire. Who’s with me?”
