Give a Gift event to raise awareness of St Barnabas Hospice

Fowler Welch have hosted a Give a Gift event to raise awareness of St Barnabas Hospice and bring in donations for future raffles and tombolas

Spalding company, Fowler Welch, has recently hosted a successful Give a Gift event in support of St Barnabas Hospice, following the death of a colleague’s father.

The Give a Gift event saw colleagues bring in a whole host of items to donate to St Barnabas for future raffles and tombolas. A large number of these items were put to good use during the Burns Night event in Spalding.

Sam Lee, who works as HR Manager at Fowler Welch wanted to give something back to the Hospice that cared for her father.

Sam said:

“I give monthly to St Barnabas Hospice and am a member of their lottery, but it is lovely that my workplace has got involved too.”

Sam’s father, Dermot McGinley, was diagnosed with a brain tumour and spent two months in 2017 being cared for by the St Barnabas Hospice at Home team.

Sam said:

“The care he received can only be described as fantastic. It was personal, honest and responsive, and nothing was too much trouble.

“The nurses treated him as if he was their own father, and he looked forward to his shave every morning.

“I was particularly touched when I overheard a nurse telling Dad to ‘have a safe journey’ as she left the day before he passed away.

Vikki Allen, Community Fundraiser at St Barnabas Hospice, said:

“We are delighted that Fowler Welch has chosen to fundraise for us, and the hard work put into organising the Give a Gift event is admirable.

“The money raised from the tombolas and raffles using these gifts will help us care for more people in Lincolnshire living with a life-limiting or terminal illness, and their families and carers.”

Following the initial Give a Gift campaign, Sam is eager to support St Barnabas with other events throughout the year.

Sam said:

“Dad would be really proud of the fundraising I’m doing for St Barnabas, and it’s such a wonderful way to keep his memory alive.

“He would say ‘good on you – do your bit!’”
