Boston Coffee Morning welcomes special guests

17th October 2022

The weekly drop-in Coffee Morning at St Barnabas Hospice’s Novak House in Boston saw two specials visitor attend the session on Wednesday 5th October.

Madam Mayor of Boston Ann Dorrian attended the get-together for a look into how these sociable meetings support members of the local community, and Tanya the PAT dog showed attendees the calming and joyful power of our furry friends.

The free Coffee Morning is a way for the general public, patients, their families, friends and carers to come together, bringing that all-important social element into their week. It takes place every Wednesday morning from 10am – 12pm at Novak House, with staff and volunteers facilitating conversations and serving hot beverages with a sweet treat.

The Mayor enjoyed a tour of the building, spoke with the staff, volunteer Clive, and took the time to get to know all visitors who live in the area. She joined in with the conversations and enjoyed her time with the visitors, as well as our four-legged guest.

PAT dog handler Rachel Poole offered attendees the chance to get to know Tanya the St Bernard and spread awareness of the concept of Pets As Therapy (PAT).  Studies have shown that interacting with a PAT pet can improve a person’s mental health and overall wellbeing.

Rachel and Tanya will continue to attend the Boston Coffee Mornings every first Wednesday of the month.

The St Barnabas Coffee Mornings have recently restarted after a two year absence due to Covid, and these much-missed events are now again available across Lincolnshire. Novak House in Boston opens its doors every Wednesday morning, and other sessions can be found below.

Grantham at Barrowby Road: Every Thursday, 10am to 12 noon
