Course Overview

An interactive, activity-based programme aimed at increasing the knowledge, skills, and confidence of Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) supporting patients and families receiving palliative and end of life care. The course emphasises person-centred, holistic care and explores deterioration, assessment tools, symptom management, and emergencies.

Indicative Content

• Principles of effective palliative and end of life care within a person-centred, holistic framework.
• Recognition of deterioration and identifying the final phase of life.
• Use of palliative care tools such as SPICT, Clinical Frailty Scale and ReSPECT to support clinical decision-making.
• Applying the Four Pillars of Wellbeing to assess complex needs and develop care strategies.
• Recognition and management of palliative emergencies.
• Understanding interprofessional roles in deterioration management, communication, symptom control and carer support.
• Identifying what constitutes high-quality palliative and end of life care.
