About this Young at HeART sculpture

This felted heart celebrates the values of the Academy: Aspiration, Inspiration, Respect, Resilience, and Innovation. Students from several year groups worked together on this sculpture, embodying these values.

Key Stage 3 Art Club students created designs inspired by what Lincolnshire is famous for and what is important to Lincolnshire culture, both currently and historically. Year 10 students then turned these into felted artwork, respecting the younger students’ ideas.

The students explored pattern, emotion, and colour within the designs. Traditionally felt was used in Mongolia where tents, yurts, clothing, and furnishings aided survival in their environment, exhibiting resilience and innovation. This is reflected in the final heart sculpture.

The students built on their existing skills and engaged in team building through this aspirational project. Successfully completing the project filled them with a sense of pride and achievement which can be celebrated together.
